Updates to COVID-19 Public Health Protocols; Testing Optional

June 21, 2022

To GW Community Members:

We are writing to share reminders and updates to the university’s COVID-19 public health protocols for the summer.  Please read below for details.

Indoor Mask Requirement
GW’s indoor mask requirement remains in place as the university community continues to experience an increased number of COVID-19 cases.  This policy is evaluated regularly, and we will update you with any changes.

Testing Protocols
Beginning Friday, July 1, routine asymptomatic COVID-19 testing will be optional for all GW students, faculty and staff.  However, testing will remain available on-demand for community members who need or want a routine COVID test. On-demand, asymptomatic testing will be available at the following locations:

  • Foggy Bottom Campus (1957 E Street, Monroe Hall/Hall of Government and Science & Engineering Hall)
  • Virginia Science and Technology Campus
  • Mount Vernon Campus
  • Arlington and Alexandria Education Centers
  • Biostatistics Center in Rockville

Detailed information on these self-test locations and hours of operation is available online. Appointments are required and can be made through the medical portal. The medical trailer at the Foggy Bottom Campus will cease operations at noon on Thursday, June 30, and routine testing will be available on Tuesday, July 5. Campus access will no longer be tied to COVID testing compliance.

Symptomatic testing remains available at the University Student Center. Appointments are required.

Please see updated FAQs regarding COVID-19 testing.

Looking Ahead to Fall
For fall 2022, we will continue to require all students, faculty and staff on our campuses to be fully up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines, i.e. fully vaccinated and boosted, if eligible. We will share additional information about any return-to-campus requirements or updates to our public health protocols later this summer.  Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work together to keep one another healthy and safe.  We hope you have a safe and restful summer.
