Getting your seasonal flu shot this year is more important than ever. We do not know very much about how the virus that causes COVID-19 and the seasonal influenza virus interact, but we do know that both have the potential to cause serious illness or death, and that anyone with influenza during the COVID-19 pandemic may need to be quarantined since the symptoms can be very similar.
After you receive your seasonal flu vaccination from an external medical provider, upload your flu vaccine documentation into the medical portal by following these steps:
Instructions for Students: Within the medical portal, go to Messages > New Message > Student Flu Shot Documentation
If you have issues uploading your documentation, you may email a copy of the documentation to the Colonial Health Center at [email protected].
Instructions for Faculty and Staff: Within the medical portal, go to Messages > New Message > Occupational Health
If you have issues uploading your documentation, you may email a copy of the documentation to GW Occupational Health at [email protected].
Your medical portal record will be manually updated and may take a few days.
Request Medical or Religious Exemption
If you wish to seek an exemption based on medical or religious reasons, faculty and staff may contact GW Occupational Health by calling 202-677-6230 or by emailing [email protected].
Students may contact the Colonial Health Center at 202-994-5300.
Note that requests are not automatically granted, and you will therefore need to provide the appropriate documentation to meet the requirements of the requested exemption. The exemption form is available online (PDF).
