Mask Requirement Lifted at All GW-Operated Facilities

June 16, 2021

To GW Community Members:

We are pleased to share that currently more than 70 percent of students, faculty and staff with access to GW-operated facilities are fully vaccinated, meaning they have completed the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine and allowed 14 days to pass after the last dose.

This milestone allows us to lift our indoor mask requirement. Masks are no longer required for fully vaccinated people at all GW-operated facilities, effective immediately.

While on campus, you may continue to see people wearing masks for a variety of reasons. An individual may feel more comfortable wearing a mask even if they are vaccinated, they may be wearing a mask to protect family members or friends or they may be exempted from the vaccine requirement for medical or religious reasons.

Also please be aware that D.C. continues to require masks on public transportation and in healthcare settings. Be prepared to wear a mask when so instructed at any facility.

Thank you to those of you who have uploaded your vaccine documentation to the medical portal. Although we’ve reached this significant milestone, we want to emphasize that it is still important for you to upload your documentation as soon as possible, but by August 1, if you haven’t done so already.

The COVID-19 vaccine is the very best way to protect yourself, and together, we can help keep our community healthy and safe.
