COVID-19 UPDATE: Survey for Personal Protective Equipment

April 06, 2020

As you may have seen, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that everyone cover their mouth and nose in public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This recommendation will increase the need for masks for designated on-site personnel who are performing essential services.

In anticipation of this need, the GW Division of Safety and Security needs your assistance in taking inventory of available masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) across our campuses. GW is establishing a thorough list of the products each office has available to support the response to COVID-19, even if the equipment is currently in use.

To understand what supplies GW has across the university, we have developed a survey asking about current inventory of masks, gloves, eye protection, and splash guards/covers. We understand that researchers, technicians and, of course, medical providers require this equipment. We will ensure that medical providers and laboratory personnel have priority for the PPE available on campus. Our intent is to use the supplies, including masks, that we have on hand to keep our essential and designated on-site employees safe. We will replenish these supplies as soon as possible.

This inventory of equipment needs to be taken immediately. Please coordinate equipment totals across your department and submit one response to the survey by Friday, April 10.

Many staff members will not have this equipment, but the request is broad to make sure we do not inadvertently miss any potential sources. If you have questions, please contact [email protected].
